Fit To Shoot Course
The OSMSC are offering a new course for this Spring. It’s all about Health and Wellness during these restricted times. It’s called Fit to Shoot and it focuses on the skills that are used by sportsmen and sportswomen across the country. We know that the England Football teams use Yoga and breathing exercises to improve their performance, because it has been reported in the press and on TV. We also know that using breathing techniques and focusing help us to achieve better results at all shooting distances. Apart from the elite skills that will improve our aim and accuracy, most shooters experience occasional back ache or find that lying prone can trigger muscular issues in the neck or lower back, particularly if you work at a desk or the kitchen table for large parts of the day.
An hour of easy stretching, breathing practice and focused awareness on a Friday evening between 8:30 and 9:30 pm. You need to wear loose comfortable clothes, have access to Zoom and it is better if you bring a rifle (unloaded, bolt out and safety flag in) We will use the rifle for some of the breathing practices.
What do we want to achieve ?. Better focus on the firing point, Easier breathing for better target acquisition, Flatter body profile on the ground and less neck discomfort when in the aim.
Your teacher is Jo who is a very experienced Yoga and Mindfulness tutor, Therapist and Rifle shooter since 1992.
This course is specifically aimed at Rifle Shooters as the skills are tailored to prone shooting. If there is enough interest we will run a second course for Shotgun shooting which focuses on standing positions, body ease in follow through of shots and reduced shoulder tension to improve swing.
Lets be ready for the new season :)
